Complain:
Lacks note of that it requires root privileges( ifthe kernel was located in a directory which the user had permission to mess around in), and there is absolutely no information on what it did. How is this good documentation or a good howto? At the least make a spoiler which tells what it did do!Code:CONCURRENCY_LEVEL=3 make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-mk kernel_image kernel_headers modules_image
General question: Where does the .deb actually end up? There is no .debs located in my source dir or in /usr/src, why?
a nice thread, thanks for always updating it.
However , there's a few question that i would like to ask regarding compiling kernel.
after doing it , why the /lib/module/kernel_that_has_been_made always have size bigger ,much2 bigger than the modules made by linux image from repository?
does't it mean that it's less compact and not efecient?
thank you
makeall of the command in this thread are doing by super user
u could read it at "sudo -s " command
make menu/xconfig
Does these need sudo? Not at all, just if you are outside of the ~/ dir.
And i found the awser, the .deb is placed 1 step over the location where you compiled. So instead on ~/src/LinuxX.xx.xx it is placed in ~/src.
Has anyone tried the new BFS patch from CK?
Yep, it's quite nice for a desktop system. I'm using the bfs 203 patch with 2.6.30. If you try it then be sure to follow his instructions regarding the kernel configuration and I highly recommend using the autoiso-xorg patch too.

I haven't tried the 211 patch for 2.6.31 yet.
