    Blank Debian Screen

    Hello friends,

I've been away for about a month and just updated from 3.5.0.40-generic to 3.5.0.44-generic (AMD 64-bit).When attempting logon I get nothing but a perfectly blank Debian screen (apart from the decorations). I've been providing help on this site for some time and now find myself in need. Can a friend help out? Many thanks.

Mine is a 64-bit all-Linux system with 32-GB RAM. The boot device is a 1 TB SSD. Other basics:
    Code:
    me@London:~$ uname -a
    Linux London 3.5.0-40-generic #62~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 23 17:38:26 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Tell me what other utilities to run and I'll post the results at once.

Because of the Debian reference it was not clear what operating system was in use. I will move the post to a different sub forum.

Can you boot from 3.5.0.40? It should still be present in the Grub Menu (unless you have 'purged' the older kernels)... boot from it and tell us what happens...
