I'm sure Microsoft pays close attention to everything Oracle does, too. Remember that OpenOffice first came along with Sun Microsystems when Oracle bought that some years back. I wasn't surprised when Oracle handed OO over to the Mozilla Foundation. Larry Ellison probably isn't very interested in software that doesn't make money, though Oracle has continued to support VirtualBox, which they also got from Sun.
I don't think Microsoft is entirely focused on Google. Microsoft's monopolies are threatened on many fronts. I do think MS has done a good job fighting *nix in the server room, especially in large organizations and enterprises. The suite of products like Server, Exchange, Sharepoint, and the like keeps Windows on the desktops. All those "CALs" add up fast, too.
I suspect MS is well aware of LibreOffice as well. I'd see both it and OpenOffice as threats in educational markets.

Though couldn't locate it MS did an anti OO video some years ago which I viewed from similar thread here on the forum. Many schools now provide Office Live to students and basic MSO apps are available free of charge through MS One Drive for those who need them and have an Internet connection . With many apps moving to cloud format porting a particular office suite is probably not a major priority unless MS is loosing customers to open formats . In any case MS wouldn't port their products just to be nice.I wonder if microsoft even knows about openoffice, or libreoffice.

Interesting rumor. We will see if it manifests as a reality.
If it requires Java, I doubt I would install it for even a trial run. I don't run Java on any of my machines.
Use whatever OS or desktop works for you. Dual boot or use VMs if you want. Backup your computer regularly, and definitely before upgrading, partitioning, or installing an OS.
No support requests by PM please.
Java. One of the stumbling blocks for my use of LibreOffice in Windows is that it (apparently?) needs Java to enable some macro capability.
@SeijiSensei -- Yeah, it seems to me that MS has built well by integrating its database, spreadsheet, and word-processing applications in a common programming platform. It makes it relatively easy to automate a lot of stuff. There's a lot of real value in the package.
Greetings,
The only reason MS would port to Linux is so that they can sue somebody. There is no motive otherwise. The market isn't big enough without a law suit.
