    Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

    ntfs-3g seems to have trouble reading files and directories that contain international characters (such as å, ä, ö that we use in Sweden). At first I feared that my ntfs partitions had been corrupted but the files that didn't show with ntfs-3g enabled were there when i booted into WinXP or used the regular (read-only) ntfs drivers.

    I'm running Edgy 6.10 and my /etc/fstab is

    Code:
    # /dev/sda3
    UUID=8d95709a-3659-4146-ba87-f400456ef68e / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1

    # /dev/sda6
    UUID=84179cf2-c4c9-4575-8622-ad108060abd5 /home ext3 defaults 0 2

    # /dev/sda1
    UUID=260C78260C77EF65 /media/sda1 ntfs-3g defaults,nls=utf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 0

    # /dev/sda5
    UUID=789C92BE9C9275FA /media/sda5 ntfs-3g defaults,nls=utf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 0
    Could it be something with the nls/umask/gid properties?

    This is wrong, where did you get that one ?
    You should use the locale= option. Look at the man.
    To know which one are supported by your system and that you should use, run locale -a.
    The one you actually use is found with locale.

    Changed it to locale=en_US.utf8 and it works. Thanks!

    The nls=utf8 came with the original installation of Edgy (but with regular ntfs).

    Oh no please...
    ivman mount everything except my local ntfs partition (but lock it); in fact when I boot there is no icon on the desktop but to use my ntfs I have to do:
    Code:
    umount /media/windows
    mount /media/windows
    and the ntfs partition will be available (but still not icon on the desktop because the mount in this case depends from gvm)

    I'm open to any idea or test for fix this scenario

    Give me a break .

    Ok, i don't have much idea about your problem, but i know from experience that the far you go from a default install, the most you'll have problem.
    You should reinstall gvm. Ivman is in the repo because it was used in the past by kubuntu, but it's not really supported anymore.

    Ok just an (last) hint :
    is there any way to copy files from a pc to another in order to replace them (a la windows)?
    This is because I have a version of Edgy that works upon gvm and the other not; but I dunno witch files must be copied in order to replace the files that causing this scenario...

    ...and yes I've already reinstalled gvm but no lucky...

    Thanks.

    Hum, you shouldn't think files, you should think packages.
    Also try to remember what config files you changed and compare theme to the working box.
    Just my 2 cents.

    Ok, but I'm not so experienced... with hal, dbus, gvm etcetera there is a lot of config files to understand...anyway for this moment I'll take ivman that works, I'll take it as workaround till next upgrade (hope soon in someways) 8)

    Thanks 4 your patience and support.
