    .evolution filenames too long to be in encrypted Private

    Following the wiki on EncryptedPrivateDirectory, I've set up the directory (under the name "encrypted") and wanted to move .evolution into it:

    Code:
    alex@meihua:~$ LANG=C cp -R .evolution/ encrypted/
    cp: cannot create regular file `encrypted/.evolution/mail/views/current_view-imap:__koterpillar@imap.gmail.com_3_e5_b9_b4_e7_ba_a7_20_d0_b1_d0_b0_d0_ba_d0_b0_d0_bb_d0_b0_d0_b2_d1_80_d1_8b_20_d0_9e_d0_9e_d0_9f.xml': File name too long
    cp: cannot create regular file `encrypted/.evolution/mail/views/custom_view-vfolder:_home_alex_.evolution_mail_vfolder__d0_a2_d0_b5_d0_ba_d1_83_d1_89_d0_b0_d1_8f_20_d1_83_d1_87_d1_91_d1_82_d0_bd_d0_b0_d1_8f_20_d0_b7_d0_b0_d0_bf_d0_b8_d1_81_d1_8c.xml': File name too long
    cp: cannot create regular file `encrypted/.evolution/mail/views/custom_view-imap:__koterpillar@imap.gmail.com_3_e5_b9_b4_e7_ba_a7_20_d0_b1_d0_b0_d0_ba_d0_b0_d0_bb_d0_b0_d0_b2_d1_80_d1_8b_20_d0_9e_d0_9e_d0_9f.xml': File name too long
    cp: cannot create regular file `encrypted/.evolution/mail/views/current_view-vfolder:_home_alex_.evolution_mail_vfolder__d0_a2_d0_b5_d0_ba_d1_83_d1_89_d0_b0_d1_8f_20_d1_83_d1_87_d1_91_d1_82_d0_bd_d0_b0_d1_8f_20_d0_b7_d0_b0_d0_bf_d0_b8_d1_81_d1_8c.xml': File name too long
    cp: cannot create regular file `encrypted/.evolution/mail/config/et-expanded-vfolder:_home_alex_.evolution_mail_vfolder__d0_a2_d0_b5_d0_ba_d1_83_d1_89_d0_b0_d1_8f_20_d1_83_d1_87_d1_91_d1_82_d0_bd_d0_b0_d1_8f_20_d0_b7_d0_b0_d0_bf_d0_b8_d1_81_d1_8c': File name too long
    Any ideas on:
    • What those long names are?
    • How do I configure Evolution to make them shorter?
    • Or, at least, can I turn off the file name encryption?

    Update:
    I deciphered those hex strings in filenames. One of them is "Текущая учётная запись" ("Current account" in Russian), the other one is the name of one of my IMAP folders (which I no longer use!).

    Evolution will not work in anything else than the ~.evolution folder.

    Re: .evolution filenames too long to be in encrypted Private

    Well, there will be .evolution. My next command was
    Code:
    $ rm -rf .evolution
    $ ln -s encrypted/.evolution
    And despite those files not copied, Evolution actually works. Maybe it's because I don't have those labels anymore, but it works.
