    iTouch and Ubuntu

    Hi All,

Not sure where to post this message. I have a friend that purchased a Dell laptop with Ubuntu (Feisty) preinstalled. My friend hadn't owned a computer before and had no prior allegiance to Windows or Mac. He just wanted a computer to do web browsing, email etc. All has been working well for the past year and a half.

My friend has expressed an interest in purchasing an iTouch and asked me if he can transfer his music (mp3 files) to the iTouch?

Because I don't own Apple products, I have to practical advice to offer.

I have two sites that describe how to sync an iTouch with Amarok and/or gtkpod.

What is the minimum required for simply dragging music files to the device?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

In synaptic you can find this :
i Pod Touch & i Phone sync setup
This package provides a set of scripts for increasing the usability of an
i Phone or i Pod touch. In order to use it, however, your device must be
    running the SSH service.

After enabling an SSH service on your device, all artwork and music can be
    properly mounted and synced.

I do not have itouch but for my 80 gig ipod classic i use songbird

    Hope this helps somewhat !

    Thanks for the reply,

After reading I will be recommending not to purchase the iTouch. After reading a lot about the subject, I have concluded that it is too much trouble than it is worth. The negatives of the iTouch outweigh any positives. Plus, there are plenty of other touchscreen media devices.

    Cowon D2 (16Gb+) - $177 at B&H

    Samsung YP-P2 (8Gb)
    - $179.99 at Amazon

    Nokia N810 (2Gb+)
    - $287 at Tech for Less (open box) or $319 at MobileCity Online (NEW)

Note: The (+) indicates slot for adding additional memory). Prices are likely to change (its black friday afterall!)

    Thanks again.

If you are referring to the ipod touch than support is fully there for it in Lucid/Maverick!

The libimobiledevice package is whats installed to allow access to the ipod touch. Also you could use the gtkpod packages that allow further access to the ipod touch!
