    What's wrong with 'M$'?

I noticed that Cariboo907 had edited a post of mine to change the '$' to an 'S' in a Microsoft putdown, saying that the spelling was no longer acceptable. Now I want to know when that rule changed and why it changed.

How is it flame bait when before I was suspended you didn't do a thing about it? For some reason, it was a brand new ruling. Why?

Although you may not like or agree with Micorsoft that does not mean it is appropriate to use terms such as M$ or other slang terminology.

At a minimum it is "OS bashing" and unprofessional. Certainly some people are offended by such terminology, so it is thus flamebait.

Many people will consider you immature (or worse) so it makes you look bad.

    Many people consider it disrespectful.

This is not a new policy and now that you are aware of the issues, we are asking you to please do not use such terms in the future.

Well, it is a slur that basically insults Microsoft's wealth, so if a Microsoft employee looks here, he might get offended.

Or any person loyal to Microsoft, for that matter. It is insulting and rude, and it only pushes people away from Linux all the more.

    Thanks for this.

I can see from your post that you in fact understand that it is an insulting term and that is the reason we are asking you not to use the term.

    From the CoC : http://ubuntuforums.org/index.php?page=policy

    #1 on the list:

Be respectful of all users at all times. This means please use etiquette and politeness. Treat people with kindness and gentleness. If you do this the rest of the code of conduct won't need more than a cursory mention.

I would also point out that expecting you to follow the CoC is not the same as supporting Microsoft, it is what you agreed to when you joined these forums. You would recieve similar notice for similar insults of a linux distro.

It is unfortunate that you misunderstand the basis of these expectations and mis interpret the intentions of the CoC.

The CoC is intended to keep these forums as enjoyable for as many people as possible, including those who choose to use Windows for any reason.

Linux is not a drop in replacement for Windows and Ubuntu is not for everyone. Please respect the decisions of others in this respect.

The purpose of these forums is to provide technical assistance for Ubuntu , not bash Microsoft, windows, or any other OS.
