** Ubuntu version 9.04 **

I can't find the help file that tells me how to do this. I am running a server (command line only). My hard drives run all the time.

I do have a /etc/hdparm.conf file. The bits and pieces of instructions that I find in the forums seem to indicate that I change my drives' behaviour using the hdparm command. However, what then updates hdparm.conf? Does hdparm read and write to it?

I also need to enable acoustic management (they are too noisy).
By the way, they are 13GB and 10 GB IDE Maxtor drives.

I assume that we are all using ACPI now and the APM is obsolete - right?
