One was a 127 error and the other was error 2.
The error text (or the complete text from the installation process) would be more helpful to me than the error numbers.

Also, how did you install the program the first time?
You should follow the instructions I gave in the initial post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=843510
(I recommend using the PPA.)

Extracting the source code in /etc/dansguardian is not a good idea!
Just extract it on your desktop or in your home directory and install from there.

I haven't created any manual yet, so it's normal that it doesn't work when you click on it.

And what do you mean by it doesn't start automatically?
Webcontentcontrol is just a user interface. It does not need to be run at startup (there is (currently) no icon in the system tray showing that it is running like with most programs in Windows).

What should run on startup however are the following services:
-dansguardian (the real content filter)
-tinyproxy (proxy)
-firehol (firewall (not necessary if browser set to use the filter port directly))

Check the buttons in "advanced settings"->"services" to make sure that those services run on startup.

Also, what language are you running webcontentcontrol in? Or what is your system language?
I only recently implemented translations, so it's possible that using languages other than English introduce some new bugs.

edit: Thanks for the bug report. I copied my answer there.

Re: HOWTO: Parental control. Now with GUI too! (updated version)

Maybe I'm missing something simple, but after installing WCC my LTSP clients can no longer boot from the LTSP server. They are receiving IP addresses but stop after that. I am running Jaunty/LTSP/Edubuntu. Everything works great on the server but my kids clients wont boot now unless i turn off WCC.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, installed this, but there does not appear to any password protection to turn this off. (ie when I open up the GUI I have full control to change fvilter options & to turn off the proptection. I'm using the 1.3.2 in Jaunty. Thanks

This is probably because you used sudo/gksu/kdesudo before running the GUI, so you still have superuser privileges.
sudo has a timeout of about 5 minutes by default I think.
Use "sudo -k" to make sure the password is requested again.

Re: HOWTO: Parental control. Now with GUI too! (updated version)

Seeing a number of instances of blank pages -- no error text, but the requested page does not come up.

Also, when I load the wcc control screen, most of it does not appear. I'm wondering if this is just a matter of trying to use Jaunty version of wcc in Karmic. (Perhaps an older Jaunty version too, since I updated all of my repositories to Karmic, and am just accepting the "not found" error messages for now)

Is there an ETA on a Karmic version?

Yes, I have the same problem with the blank pages since upgrading to Karmic. I hope it's just a matter of reinstalling dansguardian, but haven't tested it yet.
This also means I'll probably bring out a Karmic package soon.

Could you please post a screenshot of it?

When will WCC be added to the Karmic (ppa) repos?
