How do I find out server version from CLI

I have an Ubuntu server running on an old machine without a GUI. I want to install Drupal, but need to upgrade MySQL to do this. How do I find out from the CLI which version of Ubuntu is running, and then how do I Upgrade?

    TIA Aggie

Thanks: 7.04 Fiesty (and it's been running solid ever since).

Now to decide whether I have the courage to upgrade!

For Feisty, see the EOLUpgrades link in my sig or the upgrade wiki. It needs some special care since it is not supported anymore.

Depends, not in a corporate environment, but in a home environment it is doable. No changes on a Friday
