    Also have a problem after switching to this kernel with hmon related module:

    Code:
    $ sudo modprobe -v w83627ehf
    insmod /lib/modules/2.6.31-6-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/w83627ehf.ko
    FATAL: Error inserting w83627ehf (/lib/modules/2.6.31-6-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/w83627ehf.ko): Device or resource busy
    dmesg shows:

    Code:
    [10910.136417] w83627ehf: Found W83627DHG chip at 0x290
    [10910.136481] ACPI: I/O resource w83627ehf [0x295-0x296] conflicts with ACPI region HWRE [0x290-0x299]
    [10910.136484] ACPI: Device needs an ACPI driver
    Have tried to file a bug, but got server timeout.

    Re: 2.6.31-6-generic i2c problems

    I had this problem with the new 2.6.31-6 and my it87 hardware monitor.
    Google found the answer: acpi_enforce_resources was set up by default to "strict" in the recent kernels. You can find the reason why by googling.

    As a solution, add acpi_enforce_resources=lax on the kernel boot line, or add it to grub.conf for a permanent fix.

    better to add it in /etc/default/grub

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_enforce_resources=lax"

    then sudo update-grub2
