Make movie from jpg or png

Does anybody know how to make a movie or animation from a bunch of jpg or png files??

I created a some figures using gnuplot and I would like to create a movie with them (and avi file or similar).

Any ideas??

I use mencoder to do this. This site: http://electron.mit.edu/~gsteele/ffmpeg/ has some good tips. I have found this kind of thing to be a bit flaky. It may be that not every method will work for you, hopefully some combination of options will produce the result you are looking for.
