Computer Freezes, CapsLock and ScrollLock blink

I've had a problem occur a couple of times where my computer freezes. I can't move the mouse, can't type, can't go to a virtual console, nor restart X or the machine (save from a hard power off). When this happens CapsLock and ScrollLock start flashing.

I just upgraded to 8.10 on Sunday and it's started happening since then. My system is a DarU2. I've checked all the log files that were written about the time the crash happened, but nothing was recorded from about 20 minutes before the crash until the time I started the machine up again.

Anything I can test or check? Any ideas?

Hi, I had a similar problem on my pamp4i seen this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=972451 and this thread for a fix http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=969887. It solved the problem for me.

Ok. I've installed linux-backports-modules-intrepid . Hopefully this will be my last post in this thread. Thanks!

Yeah those blinking lights mean a kernal panic. The issue for me was a bug in the intel wireless card driver. I had to install the backport-modules.

You can find it in Synaptic.

The same thing happened when I upgraded to 8.10.

the backports fixed it for me.
