Dell Wireless 365 bluetooth module

I have a Dell E4300, and I can't seem to get the bluetooth module to work with Ubuntu. It keeps saying "module not detected" At first I had 8.04 x64, and then I tried 8.10 x64, with the same results. I figured it was a 64bit driver issue, but the same thing happens with 8.04 32bit and 8.10 32bit.

The status light for my bluetooth is active. Here is the output for various bluetooth commands.

$hcitool scan
Device is not available: No such device
$hidd --search
Searching ...
$hcitool dev
Devices:

An interesting fact is that I can actually see the Dell bluetooth with my phone, and it shows up as "Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Module"

Re: Dell Wireless 365 bluetooth module

Anyone?

Also I found out that this bluetooth module is ONLY in the E4300 and E4200 notebooks... but on the upside I'm pretty sure it's a brodcom chipset... Still looking into it.

Sorry, but I have the same problem. If i find something, I will answer. I agree that it could be a Broadcom chipset considering the drivers available for Vista.

Re: Dell Wireless 365 bluetooth module

I got my bluetooth adapter detected after an upgrade to ubuntu 8.10, It requires me to throw the command:

rmstep@rmstep-laptop:~$ sudo hciconfig hci0 reset

Where hci0 is the bluetooth adapter. I can see bluetooth devices, but I am still having problems getting my bluetooth mouse to pair.

When i type:

rmstep@rmstep-laptop:~$ sudo hidd --search
Searching ...
Connecting to device 00:07:610:06:4D
Can't get device information: Software caused connection abort

That device address is my mouse.

Also, just adding information, the Bluetooth adapter in these notebooks is a Broadcom BCM2046B1

Re: Dell Wireless 365 bluetooth module

Hello,

at least is needed to add this line in /etc/modprobe.d/options:

# 2008-11-03 Bluetooth Dell 365 Enabler
options btusb reset=1

I can pair my mobilephone but I cannot any other action like transfer a file or to discover the services of other devices. Any idea is welcomed.

Re: Dell Wireless 365 bluetooth module

I also have this problem, and I really hate the new touchpad in my E4300. I have tried to use ndsigtk to load bluetooth network drivers in 8.10 as indicated in other posts but it always says "invalid driver". My output from lsusb -v is the same as above for the bluetooth device, but does that mean there is a module present and installed, or are we just reading identifying information that is part of the firmware of the device?

Re: Dell Wireless 365 bluetooth module

Hi,

I took the liberty of creating a launchpad team for the people who own or develop for the Dell Latitude E4200/E4300 laptops, so that we can have more visibility upstream when having to ask for patches or support.

https://launchpad.net/~e4200-e4300

I'll be sending a couple of messages to ubuntuforums and notebookreview forums to gather the ~15 users I've identified so far.

Cheers,

Albert.
