use persistant usb ubuntu to install ubuntu

I have just installed ubuntu on a usb flash drive. I would like to be able to install a fresh ubuntu on the hardrive of any computer I boot the usb drive from. I also want to be able to make changes to the instalation on the usb drive.

Is there a way to have both a persistant installation on a usb drive and to be able to use it as a live cd to install ubuntu?

What are the advantages and disadvantages between a usb livecd and a persistant usb installation.

Take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent. That should answer your questions.
