The Community Cafe The Community Chat area is for lighthearted and enjoyable discussions, like you might find around a water cooler at work. Almost any non-tech-support topic may be discussed here. Discussions on religion and politics are not allowed, except for politics directly related to free and open source issues. Any topic or discussion that causes problems or drama will be closed. This area is intended for fun and community building, not arguments. Please take those elsewhere. Thanks! |

Re: Calling All Linux Experts
I can answer more than half of them! This makes me happy because I am a relatively new *nix user. I even know the answer of "What is the maximum length of CAT6?" which is actually very easy to look up. So the easy ones according to me are these: 1-4, 6-9, 11, 14, 17 (provided that you change "red hat" with "debian" in some of the questions).
I don't know those things about OSI and layers. But I bet I can answer one or two after reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model I am a bit ashamed that I don't know the answers of 5 & 15. Can anyone answer them: 5. Give an example of a set of shell commands to tell how many times “bob” has logged on to the system this month. 15. Show an example of using telnet to learn the headers of an http server. |

This has shown me that you won't take the initiative to research a problem, even when it might land you a job. I "googled" most of these questions before making the list and most of them are very easily discovered. It didn't seem to me that I was asking too much for people to use mailing lists, forums, IRC whatever to compile the answers themselves. I actually expected to see some questions show up on forums but I didn't expect someone to paste the entire thing and expect the forum users to do all the work that would qualify you for an interview. I think at this point you could save us all some time and not turn the answers back in, I already have the information I need on your answers. As far as the rest of you, if there are any of you reading this thread that live in the Nashville area that want a network administration job with some Linux work feel free to shoot me your resume at paul.tinsley (at) lightningsource.com. Oh, while you are at it, go ahead and send me the answers to the questions Last edited by Sef; July 30th, 2008 at 07:07 AM.. Reason: Set the email, so spam bots won't be able to read it. |

This is probably the funniest threads I have ever read.
Who gets called out by a potential boss on the Ubuntu Forums? Soon to be a classic...
