Mixer error in C&C generals

After initial installation, the slash screen loads, then fades, and nothing else happens (have to forcefully kill the process). Loaded into a terminal, the resulting error is:

fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on MPU-401 UART, disabling mixer
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on HDA ATI HDMI, disabling mixer

I tried to switch to OSS but that didn't help, and didn't even give me an error. I'd like to actually understand the problem though, I'm like that.

Nevermind, it wasn't related to the mixers, it was related to the copy protection. Cracking the program worked. I'll leave this thread here in case someone else winds up in the same situation. I still have the animated cursors glitch though, but that's another thread....
