    Video/Audio in Ubuntu

New Ubuntu, pretty new to linux as well so bare with me. I am having an issue. Video is playing slowly, with no audio stream. /mp3 files are loading into the player (have tried a few) but just sit at 0:00 and do not play. I have been all over the web, and have dl'd what it seemed I needed, but it does not seem to be working. Anyone who could help, I'd appreciate it.

HI and welcome, have you installed the drivers for your graphics card? I see in your other post you have downloaded the restricted formats. Has that helped the issue?
