Scanning windows for viruses through linux

    Is this at all possible?
A woman from my church contacted me with some bad windows virus issues, so much so that she can not even scan for the viruses as the computer will just straight up crash on her.

I'd like to use a live cd to maybe scan the system, is this possible?

If not I was planning on backing important files up with a thumb drive from the live cd, and reformatting the whole thing... But I'd also like ot be able to scan those files on the thumb drive so that she does not possible get the virus again while putting them back.

Thanks for any possible solutions, I'm open to ideas!

*so glad I don't use windows! But sad that most people still do!!*

I'm sure it does. Also there is Trinity Rescue Kit. It has 4 virus scanners on it.

No need to. It does provide information that others may benefit from.
