Totem does not leave (semi) fullscreen mode

I am forced to use Totem as VLC does not play all of my videos in 8.04.

After I open a movie in fullscreen mode once, I cannot make Totem show movies in normal windows from that moment.

Totem occupies the whole screen, the menu bar and the controls do not hide and the button Leave Fullscreen does not do anything. Sometimes there are two sets of controls at the bottom - weird.

    Do you know the workaround?

That sounds like a compiz issue and looks like one too.
    Is Compiz enabled?
If not what video card/chipset are you using and if its ATI or Nvidia are the closed source drivers in use?

Compiz is enabled with the standard nvidia-glx driver installed in Hardy. Everything is standard with the special effects enabled through Hardware Devices

Disable compiz/desktop effects and then try fullscreen mode again.
If the problem still persists then its not compiz but if it does then it is compiz.
