upgrade 8.04 - i am really stuck :(
hi, i have 2 laptops, both been with 7.10, as i started the upgrade for both to 8.04 one of them went very smoothly and upgraded successfully, but the other one failed, where i did the same procedure for both, anyway what happened exactly for the failed one that while the upgrading process and after downloading all the upgrade files, it started to install the files where it pop up a window asking to replace/leave something called "cups" so i selected "replace" where in the terminal it was saying like "configuring cups ....." and it hangs there, i left the laptop working for hours but the same message keep hanging where the remaining time was 11 minutes, so at that point i believed that i should stop the upgrade process, so i did and i restarted the system where gnome failed to load and so many problems appeared, i was even unable to launch the update process it self, so what i did that i tried this command "sudo apt-get update" but it said that there is a problem and i should run some command to fix it which is "dpkg --configure -a" so i did and it started to fix something then i was able to run the update again where there was no option to upgrade but there was around 332 updates so i decided to apply these updates, as they installed it required to restart, where in the boot menu there was 2 new entries both with different version number, anyway i will not complete cuz there so many problems, the important now is there a way or some tool to repair my system, i will be thankful if some one provide a help cuz my big problem that the failed laptop is my "WORK MACHINE
" , people, i am really stuck ....
