Sprint wireless broadband card (PX-500) not detected?

All the guides that I've seen involve connecting it first to a Windows computer, to get the username and ID or something like that, and although I do have a desktop with XP, it doesn't have the slot for this type of card; so that's not an option. Is there any way to do this without having to use the card in Windows first?

I really don't have a lot of time to wade through a bunch of tutorials/guides on how to get connected with this EVDO card, since I'll be going on a trip for the weekend and I was hoping to use it on the train and in other places so I wouldn't have to be stopping at wireless hotspots. Could anyone point me in the right direction with this? Thanks!
