Exclamation Horrible Keyboard Bug: Stops Responding in Gutsy 7.10

Hi there. I am on a Compaq Presario v2565us, and I am experiencing a devastating bug that has repeatedly frustrated and infuriated me. I am completely amazed that it exists because of how impossibly frustrating it is. At seemingly random times, my keyboard will choose to completely stop responding. I cannot Ctrl + Alt + F1 into terminal, or Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to reset X.

In this thread, someone suggests that it may be Java SCIM being the problem, and that hitting Ctrl + Space will bring a computer in and out of this fateful state. I tried hitting Ctrl + Space just now, and it didn't break my keyboard, so that's not it.

In this thread, riven0 suggests hitting Alt + SysRq + R to reset the keyboard firmware. I haven't tried this yet, so I don't know if that will fix it.

I am using KDE, like the fellow in this thread. And, like in this thread, I lost keyboard functionality after my screensaver started, but that is not the only problem area.

This is a really horrible problem and has caused repeated data loss and frustration for me. Someone, please, I implore you, tell me you've encountered this problem before and know how to solve it. It clearly has a history--it rears its ugly head in at least three or four threads, as I've linked above, and whatever this bug is, it is alive and well and ruining my day quite consistently. What can I do?

Re: Horrible Keyboard Bug: Stops Responding in Gutsy 7.10

Hello! I have absolutely the same bug, But I use PIV-3Ghz/i915g/2048gb/160gb/ desktop with normal Genius keyboard which works fine in Fesity. I have to say I cannot see any apparent records in logs what happened with my machine. I think my problems came out when I installed adobe-flash-plugin in Firefox, because usually my desktop hangs there.

I have confirmed the bug. I can post a system log if you'd like.

That would be excellent, firefeather. Please do post it to the bug report! Thanks!

Posted. I think the hardest thing about this bug is that it's difficult to separate from other keyboard problems, but maybe they're the same.
