7.1 on vmware. can I change resolution?

I am running Ubuntu_710_VMware_EN under Windows XP

I can’t figure out how to get higher resolution than the default. I would like 1280×960. This shows up as a choice in the menu.

When I select a the higher res, the screen stays the same and just asks me if I want to keep the new res.

i had the same problem. install vmware tools.

one easy way to work around is use both "autofit window" and "autofit guest" options in vmware console. the resolution is pretty good.
