Hello All
Ubuntu update manager has informed me today that updates, Imlib2, Imlib2-dev, linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-27-i386, linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-27-k7, and linux-restricted-modules-2.6.15-27-common are available for upgrading. There was NO reason, or changelog information provided in the Changes window. Upgrades as important as Kernel modules should have provided information as to why they need to be upgraded. This has happened mostly since Dapper as far as I can tell. This is extreamly annoying to me because I use Gatos km_drv module for ati 7500 video-card that I need to recompile for every new kernel/modules upgrade. I don't mind so much when no provided changelog is for upgrades that don't effect other things much, or at all. I know that the Ubuntu staff are very busy, but I believe having changlogs, and/or reasons for upgrading is imperative importance to Ubuntu Users Base. JWM |

Re: Important Updates but no explaination or changlog
this has been happening to me even since the breezy days - for some reason some packages do not show any changes in the update manager. (there were a few threads about this some time ago, with people complaining about this, so you are not the first.)
however, my bro, who has ubuntu running on his laptop as well, never has any trouble seeing the changes. so clearly it is not that the changes are not available up on the servers, its just that for some reason my comp has problems reading them (my comp, and that of a few other people on these forums). so, clearly, it is some kind of a bug in the update manager, that rears its ugly head only in some select instances. we should file a bug. |

Did anybody file a bug on this?
I'm still experiencing it (and have done since Breezy) and this is at multiple locations, on multiple machines. Tonight I had some updates but foolishly forgot to note which ones didn't work. I can file a bug report if required... (do bugs still get addressed on Dapper?) |
