The debs are also in mainline now:

Thanks guys. It's useful to compile straight to the debs and the localmodconfig make target means you're only building what you need instead of the whole kit and kaboodle so it's pretty quick even on the old machines I have.

    Code:
    paul@lubuntu-64:~$ wc -l /lib/modules/3.12.0-rc5-custom/modules.order
    77 /lib/modules/3.12.0-rc5-custom/modules.order
    paul@lubuntu-64:~$
    or:

    Code:
    paul@lubuntu-64:~$ locate *.ko | grep 3.12.0-rc5 | wc -l
    77
    paul@lubuntu-64:~$

Btw, this time I downloaded the .xz file and untarred it with:

    Code:
    tar xf ~/Downloads/linux-3.12-rc5.tar.xz
    .

    Some discussion of that here:

nice one! i tried that command first with the custom-kernel i just compiled:

    Code:
    fooman@fooman-GA-990FXA-UD5:~$ wc -l /lib/modules/3.12.0-rc5-custom2/modules.order
    115 /lib/modules/3.12.0-rc5-custom2/modules.order
then i ran it against the rc4 from the mainline kernel release:

    Code:
    fooman@fooman-GA-990FXA-UD5:~$ wc -l /lib/modules/3.12.0-031200rc4-generic/modules.order
    3817 /lib/modules/3.12.0-031200rc4-generic/modules.order
    and also the 3.11 kernel:

    Code:
    fooman@fooman-GA-990FXA-UD5:~$ wc -l /lib/modules/3.11.1-031101-generic/modules.order
    3900 /lib/modules/3.11.1-031101-generic/modules.order
wow, that is a huge difference!

    Thanks!

I'm compiling the kernel on my lappy (Paul-Style) as I type.

I crashed my Latitude, last night, while doing a simple 'sudo apt-get autoremove'. LoL!

Couldn't even 'chroot' it, sooo I did a fresh install...

I'll see if I can compile the kernel, again. Mainline works great...
