    Notepad++ Like Program in Ubuntu ?

    Hi, everybody.
    I would like to know if there is a text editor suitable for code (php & html) development in Ubuntu.

    What I need is basically:
    I would like to be able to
    • Get auto completion (for variable and function names)

    • Customize the theme (background, font colors etc.)

    • Save the file in "UTF-8 Without BOM" Encoding

    And one final (related) question:
    Is there any way (for both Ubuntu and Windows Notepad++) to auto close the html tags with comments?
    What I mean is when I type
    Code:
    <head>
    I would want the program to automatically insert
    Code:
    </head>
    Or much much greater would be when I type
    Code:
    <div id="myDiv">
    the program would insert
    Code:
    </div><!-- #myDiv -->
    this would be so great.

    Thanks, and sorry for the long question

    Notepad++ is based on the Scintilla library. I would suggest Geany, as this also uses this library; you can find it in the software center. Or perhaps Bluefish; i don't know whether this has all functions you want, but it's mostly catered to web development.

    +1 To geany.. I was just about to suggest the exact same thing..

    I use it to code, mostly bash. But it covers a few of the things you mentioned.

    Switched away from windows XP to Ubuntu 9.04. Never turned around to look back.

    Yes my solution was Geany too,
    But I couldn't find how to change themes and how to save UTF-8 without BOM.

    Any ideas?
