Angry Ubuntu not showing up in boot loader menu in dell inspiron 14r

    hi
I own a Dell inspiron 14R with windows7 installed in it. I wish to have a dual boot. He i ve installed ubunutu(without using WUBI). Once i restart after installation, the boot loader menu asks to repair windows without listing Ubuntu. I ve left with no other option but to repair Windows which removes the partition in which I ve installed Ubunutu from windows.
Can someone help me in modifying the boot loader from windows so that I can use a dual boot option which will allow me to use Win7 as well as Ubunutu.
    Thanks

Re: Ubuntu not showing up in boot loader menu in dell inspiron 14r

Hi and welcome to the forums

    Please do the following:

Boot the Ubuntu Live CD/USB. Choose the option "Try Ubuntu without any changes." Once the desktop loads come back here and do the following:

    1. Download the boot info script. There is a link in my signature.
    2. Once downloaded, move the boot info script to the desktop.
    3. Open a terminal and run the command

    Code:
    sudo bash ~/Desktop/boot_info_script*.sh
This will create a RESULTS.txt file on the desktop. Paste the entire contents of that file back here in a new post. Once pasted highlight all text and click the # sign on the toolbar to place code tags around the text.

Re: Ubuntu not showing up in boot loader menu in dell inspiron 14r

@Broderben, next time it is polite to start your own thread and post results of boot script, you are new so we learn.
do as below Windows first and Ubuntu second. If you do not have a Windows disk we can use another way.

Do the EDIT in red FIRST please then run these commands.
Use your live cd (install cd using try ubuntu)
open a terminal and copy and paste these one at a time.
    Code:
    sudo mount /dev/sda6 /mnt
    Code:
    sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/mnt/boot /dev/sda
    Code:
    sudo umount /mnt
    Code:
    sudo reboot
    Boot into Ubuntu and:
    Code:
    sudo update-grub
Done: Will now have both as menuentry.

    Edit:
You know looking at your Windows install you do not have any boot files in your install.
Do you have your Windows 7 disk. Here is the link to first get your Windows boot files
fixed in your windows install, then run commands above to put grub2 into place so as
to boot both Windows and Ubuntu.
Only a couple of commands takes no time at all. If you get in a jam just ask.
