Awful font rendering in Firefox

I haven't seen that, although I am using firefox donwloaded from mozilla and on Xubuntu, so my case is possibly very different.

I see in the bug report that people have tried different levels of font hinting. But the the screenshots posted look to me as though it might be an issue with the sub-pixel order. I keep mine set to none because I don't like the colour fringes I get between parallel vertical lines in words like million otherwise. Has anyone tried adjusting the sub-pixel order?

P.S. I think you need to restart forefox after changing the font settings. It doesn't seem to take the new settings on the fly.
