12.04 - Chromium hogging memory - should I switch back to firefox?

Chromium uses all of my available memory, bogging down my writing assignments, because OOorg isn't very light.

Firefox seems to be doing a lot better. I switched originally because firefox was using too much memory and chrome/ium seemed lighter, but now I'm not sure.

    I've
    Code:
     free -m
for both of them, checked the task manager (chromium's multiple processes didn't seem to go away when I got down to one tab), I checked chromium's task manager and the tab will be using most of the memory, followed by adblock plus.

I've got 4 tabs open in firefox and still have almost half of my memory left. Swap isn't being used hardly at all.

As I type this message Firefox is consuming 172-178 MB. Out of 4 GB or RAM I'm using only 415 MB RAM full booted up and running.

    6 tabs open in firefox,

    Code:
    charlie@dinosaur:~$ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 1002 747 255 0 48 323
    -/+ buffers/cache: 375 627
    Swap: 2934 0 2934
What widget/application are you using there that's pretty nice looking.

A bit later, 5 tabs and almost all ate up -
    Code:
    charlie@dinosaur:~$ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 1002 977 24 0 66 455
    -/+ buffers/cache: 455 546
    Swap: 2934 0 2934

I had the same problem as well, Firefox was no better for me.
I was advised in the forums to install Google Chrome, Its working great. Memory and Cpu usage was cut by over 60%. Videos play great with no lag or choppiness
    Hope this helps
