Question smartctl current_pending_sector 1 but long test find no errors..

    Hello,

I encounter a strange situation where smartctl sends me this e-mail every time the system boots:

This email was generated by the smartd daemon running on:

    host name: cerberus
    DNS domain: my.domain
    NIS domain: (none)

The following warning/error was logged by the smartd daemon:

Device: /dev/sda, 1 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors

For details see host's SYSLOG (default: /var/log/syslog).

You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation.
No additional email messages about this problem will be sent.
    syslog file contains:

I read the bad blocks how to here: http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net/badblockhowto.html and also other people's suggestions that they all say I need to do an extended disk self-test and then there is a procedure to fix the error...

My problem is that no matter how many times I ran the extended self-test, everything looks fine. No error returned by the test, but the current_pending_sector is still there and also flooding my syslog as you see above.

This is the output of my smartctl --all /dev/sda

    Code:
    # smartctl --all /dev/sda

Re: smartctl current_pending_sector 1 but long test find no errors..

I found the solution to the problem eventually!

I just used the command "cat /dev/zero > tempfile" to fill up all of the empty sectors on my partitions.
When the command tried to write to the "Pending Sector" it stopped and smartctl does not report any Current_Pending_Sector now
