    Lubuntu impressions

It has taken me awhile to get to Lubuntu, I think i have found what
i was expecting linux to be,fast, easy to use, easy to learn, plus
simple very functional defaults. I am finding it is also easier
on resources than other distro's, giving me better battery life
on my tired old laptop. Finally an OS i am not fighting with.

Most of what i do is in the browser, so i don't need anything fancy, plenty of functions for what i use it for. For the real
heavy stuff i still have windows 7 anyway.

Glad it's working for you. Lubuntu is know for it's small foot print and IMHO is a great choice for older systems.

Not sure what "heavy stuff" you eluding to, unless it's propitiatory games or specific apps that you require for a certain task. I've been able to find Linux apps that (for the most part) accomplish all the necessary tasks I performed in Windows. But I'm not a gamer, or a video editor - nor do I need AutoCad any longer.

    Good Luck & Enjoy

Yep left Ubuntu back in 2008 as no serious photo & video editing software.Except for Gimp which I hated.

Been using Windows 7 and Lightroom 3 for my photography work last 4 years.

This winter slow on booked shoots so thought to give Linux a checkout.

And was surprised how it has matured in many areas. But still lacking in other's.

But to my surprise ground was moved forward with darktable & Rawtherapee for Serious Image editing. And now soon to be released Lightworks.

So plan is to stick around and see what Linux evolves too.

@ orb9220, just looking at your portfolio, some nice pics. Photography has been a life long hobby of mine, always appreciate a good picture, particularly nature, scenery, wildlife.
With the advent of digital cameras, photography is pretty exciting {at least for me}.

I know i am dating myself but i started with a pentax K1000., and a few lenses.
One big reason for getting a computer for me was photos.

K1000 is a well loved classic camera.
If it wasn't for digital I couldn't afford to make any monies.
As just too much cost in film and too much time mucking in a darkroom somewhere.

First dips was in Okinawa in 1973 with a Ricoh TLS 401 with a 50mm f1.7.
Developing in the army darkroom. But soon lost interest due to Bar gals & Bar hopping sowing my young'in oats

experience for me as I have always used firefox even with windows,
