    I tryed already ppa manager did not help, also that tweak tool "advanced settings" from ubuntu software center. So far I don´t know what to do to get my lovely Ubuntu to get back to work proper. Through my search on Google I could not find something helpful.

    Thanks a lot guys for spending your time on my issue!!!

    Re: update manager error report

    Hi, first try running in a terminal

    Code:
    sudo dpkg --configure -a
    It's also telling you "please install the linux-headers-3.2.0-23-generic package" so install that
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.2.0-23-generic

    .

    @bonehunter,
    First, a humble advice to make your posts look cleaner and more readable (please make it a habit for future posts) -

    Please edit your above post to wrap the output codes in 'Code' tags by highlighting the output part with your mouse cursor, then (in advance editing mode) clicking on # at the top of the edit box in which you create new posts. It will put the selected text in a nice box like sandyd has done for you in the first post.

    It not only makes your post compact, but also preserves the output formatting, thus making it more readable.

    You can also do it by manually typing [code] at the beginning and [/code] at the end of the output part.

    Onto your problem now -

    I could recommend to just clean downloaded archives (apt-get clean) and delete existing package lists (/var/lib/apt/lists) then redo update, but let's first take a look at your /etc/default/grub file plus current kernel in use.

    Please post outputs of -
    Code:
    cat /etc/default/grub
    uname -mr

    Are you sure this was ALL the output and nothing left out on top from being copied ? It's not good if so. Here's mine for reference -
    Code:
    # If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
    # /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
    # For full documentation of the options in this file, see:
    #   info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration'

    GRUB_DEFAULT=0
    #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0
    GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=true
    GRUB_TIMEOUT=10
    GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

    # Uncomment to enable BadRAM filtering, modify to suit your needs
    # This works with Linux (no patch required) and with any kernel that obtains
    # the memory map information from GRUB (GNU Mach, kernel of FreeBSD ...)
    #GRUB_BADRAM="0x01234567,0xfefefefe,0x89abcdef,0xefefefef"

    # Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
    #GRUB_TERMINAL=console

    # The resolution used on graphical terminal
    # note that you can use only modes which your graphic card supports via VBE
    # you can see them in real GRUB with the command `vbeinfo'
    #GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480

    # Uncomment if you don't want GRUB to pass "root=UUID=xxx" parameter to Linux
    #GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true

    # Uncomment to disable generation of recovery mode menu entries
    #GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY="true"

    # Uncomment to get a beep at grub start
    #GRUB_INIT_TUNE="480 440 1"
    Accordingly, please post a copy of the "grub" file itself so we can be sure. It is located at /etc/default directory.

    PS : Example of Code Tags

    Ah, let me then try with an example of 'free -m' command -
    Without the tags (your current style), its output will look like -
    ~$ free -m
    total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 3857 3649 208 0 143 1417
    -/+ buffers/cache: 2087 1770
    Swap: 6168 467 5701

    Hmm.. nice puzzle up there ^^ ! (scratches head and pulls out some hair..)

    Now after copy-pasting above in my post, if I type [code] in its beginning, and [/code] at the output's end like this -

    [code]
    ~$ free -m
    total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 3857 3649 208 0 143 1417
    -/+ buffers/cache: 2087 1770
    Swap: 6168 467 5701

    [/code]

    Then 'After' clicking on "Submit Reply" button to post it, it will look like this -
    Code:
    ~$ free -m
                 total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem:          3857       3649        208          0        143       1417
    -/+ buffers/cache:       2087       1770
    Swap:         6168        467       5701
    Looks better ? (you may also use "Preview Post" button to see how it will finally look in your post)

    This pair of [CODE] tags can be automatically generated around a selected portion of text by highlighting the text with mouse pointer, then clicking on # at the top of the Advanced edit box in which you create new posts.
    CodeTagShortcut.jpg

    Alternatively, you can copy an output code > generate the tags > press ctrl-V to paste the copied text in-between the tags. That's a bit quicker.

    Hope you find it useful.

    Re: update manager error report

    Glad you liked it.

    Assuming this is your actual grub file, there is a minor error (with HUGE consequences !!)

    Notice the double-quote () highlighted in red in the emboldened line. That is the culprit. The one at the end of the same line is correct one. Just overwrite the highlighted one by copy-pasting the last one.

    Proofread, save and close. Then try -
    Code:
    sudo update-grub
    If it updates without errors, you may proceed with the original system update you were attempting.
