I can't stand the XFCE. First, it has a rat. Second, it looks like a psuedo version of the gnome desktop environment.
One might suspect that if you were given a new Loutus, you wouldn't want it (as the name represents a flower). Who would want to drive around in an flower?
The concept that a name or logo might stop some one from using a quality product, is way beyond my ability to comprehend. Unfortunately, based on my observations - branding today has (for some products) become more important than the actual product itself.
An efficient, minimalistic desktop that is responsive and stable can't have any value. Without all the flash, glitter and bloat, what possible value could it have? Those users who prefer a configurable, fast, minimalistic desktop - obviously have no clue what their doing. How foolish they must be. If it doesn't capture their attention with bright shinny colors or animation, they're missing the entire experience. 
IMHO each user should decide for themselves that which best meets their needs/requirements and expectations. Not simply be influenced by those of others or branding.
