The messaging indicator is not available for 12.10

I'm currently testing the Xubuntu 12.10 Beta 2 and the changelog states

Known issues:

The messaging indicator is not available for 12.10
Duplicated partitions might be shown at Thunar sidebar and desktop

AFAIK , the messaging indicator is going through some changes in its API for the 12.10 release , therefore some code has to be rewritten. But we're 1 week away from the release date and the indicator is still missing.

My questions are:
Will the messaging indicator be included in Xubuntu 12.10?
What are the benefits of changing the messaging-indicator for the end user?

I updated my xubuntu and I still dont have the messaging indicator.

We're four days away from the release date and this is a big problem =/

Below is the Empathy indicator and menu in the XFCE session not Xubuntu . I don't know if that is what you are referring to.

xubuntu uses pidgin by default, not empathy. The pidgin indicator is what's missing from 12.10.

I'd also like to know if the pidgin indicator will at all be available for 12.10, for now I've just set the pidgin "classic" tray icon to show on new messages, but I'd certainly prefer the nice messaging indicator.

Hello Frogs Hair and thanks for the reply.

I've uploaded 2 pictures , the big one shows my current desktop without the messaging indicator, synaptic (ubuntu-desktop is installed, which I guess is the package for a default xubuntu installation) and the post from xubuntu.org that states that there's a known issue with the messaging indicator.

I looked at your screenshot and I don't think that's the messaging indicator. I think that's the empathy tray menu (I really don't know for sure , I don't use empathy).

Anyway, in my second (and smaller) picture is the messaging indicator of Xubuntu 12.04 , which used to give me access to the IM and Mail client.

My xubuntu install is up to date and this problem persists. I'm worried that the 12.10 is going to come out with a bug as big as this one.

There is no messaging indicator ready - not sure of the technical reasons other than an issue with gtk2 and gtk3.

Fully updated here and no messaging menu.
