"Universal" USB remote, will it work?

Does anyone have experience with a product like this:

    http://translate.google.com/translat...17%26lang%3DNL

    (Remote with USB infra-red receiver)

Not sure if this Google Translate link will work, so I'll quote the most important statement:

No drivers are needed as the computer sees it as a standard keyboard and mouse. Works on Windows and 2000/XP/MCE/Vista/Mac/Linux because this Plug & Use in principle with any operating system.
Before I buy it, will it work with Linux? Without having to fiddle with lirc?
I would guess, since it claims to act as a keyboard , it will only work with applications that have keyboard shortcuts.
Or could you still use lirc to capture it's signals and make it work with lirc-enabled applications? (My main use would be for VLC and Amarok)

One more BUMP before I just buy the thing and try if it works.
Anyone interested in hearing if it works?
