    Moved to Other OS/Distro Talk

    Artist X is not a Ubuntu-supported distribution/variant.

Actully it is based on Ubuntu GNU/Linux but it is only a Live DVD/USB and if you want to install it you must read the installation manual. It sound a lot like Ubuntu Studio which I am running on a sound system. Ubuntu Studio can be installed along side Windows as a dual boot system also.
Here is what it says about ArtistX
ArtistX is a free live GNU/Linux DVD which turns a common computer into a full multimedia production studio.
It is based on Ubuntu GNU/Linux and contains nearly all the available free audio, 2D and 3D graphics, and video software for the GNU/Linux computing platform. It doesn't need to be installed, and boots directly into a running system without touching hard drives. The files produced with ArtistX can be easily stored on USB devices or CD/DVD medium while it is running. If you want to install it please take a look to our documentation to the ArtistX Installation Manual (Live DVD section).
    Here is the website. http://www.artistx.org/site3/
EDIT: I am doing a download and we take a look at it and see if it has an installer like other Linux distros. Maybe it is an easy install. I don't plan on installing it, but will take a look at it. There website must be slow, it has over an hour to go to get the download.

OK, I downloaded the iso file and burned a DVD. The DVD does have an install on it. I am going to guess it is like the 11.X install. I ran the live OS and it look good. It was a heavy download. I think it was 4.3gig. It has a lot of programs on the DVD. It looks like there is a few graphic corruption but I have the same problem with Black Opal. Overall it looks interesting. I believe you can run it with Windows 7 as a dual boot. It should be straight forward to install.

Now on the other hand, I would install Ubuntu 12.04 before installing Artist along side Windows 7. In fact before I install a new SSD I had that setup. I would consider install it on a external USB drive and testing it that way or even as a Virtual machine.

I don't know if you will find anyone on this forum that has installed Artist Linux, but seeing it is based on Ubuntu 11.XX you might find it follows these instructions.
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall
This is a step by step.
Before installing it make sure the Live DVD/USB will work on your computer. If everything works then install it.
