Re: USB 3.0 EVERYTHING ... but still horrible speed ... HELP
I got a laptop with 2 USB 3.0 ports from System76. They guarantee Ubuntu support with all of their products.
The one thing I can think of that would make the speed slow down a lot is if you were using a USB 2.0 cable, rather than a 3.0 cable. Regardless of whether your device is 3.0 or 3000.0, the thing that can really undermine the speed of the device is the connector. Make sure they are USB 3.0 cables, and if they aren't order new cables.
Also, when you got your laptop, did it come with Windows? If not, that is probably why-the drivers in the kernel might only be for 2.0, and you didn't get any proprietary drivers for the 3.0.
Those are just my thoughts.
Backups are amazing. 99% of data loss can be prevented by spending less than $100 on an external drive.
