Unable to Connect to the Android 3G Mobile Hotspot Since 11.04 Release

    Hi all!

It has been frustrating and I'd like to ask you for help to solve it.

Since 11.04 Release, I have not been able to connect to the Wireless Hotspot created by my Motorola Droid using my Asus eeePC 1005HA-H. I have tried other tethering applications other than the stock "3G Mobile Hotspot", with or without encryption, but the results were the same.

I decided to give another try yesterday and installed the 11.10 release, but still no luck. It used to work without problems in 10.10. The icon shows as it is trying to connect, but after some seconds the dialog to enter wi-fi passcode appear over and over again, with no connection made.

Does anybody have the same problem? Could you help me with this problem?

I'd really want to use this Ubuntu release because of the Unity, that is very optimized for the small screen of my netbook.

    Thank you,
    Dennis (Brazil)

I have the same problem on Defy.
I can connect to the hotspot when booted to Win7Starter.
I am using currently 11.10. It worked me in the previous version 10.10 too.

Having the same problem. Have tried solutions found online with no luck.

    Here's the scenario:

    Ubuntu 11.0
    Wireless card: AR242x / AR542x Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express)

I can connect to my secure home wireless network.
Cannot connect to Android 3g hotspot.

Other devices can connect to the hotspot.

    Any help is appreciated!

Re: Unable to Connect to the Android 3G Mobile Hotspot Since 11.04 Release

I know a lot of people are having trouble with the 11.04 and 11.10 and hotspots. I just installed ubuntu not even a day ago and wanted to connect, however I wanted to connect it with my phones hotspot. That did not work... AT ALL.

Thankfully I found a solution for myself, I'm not sure if it will work for any of you guys but Its something.

By the way, im using 11.10.

My solution may not be practical but it worked for me. After being frustrated by the connection problems I decided to plug my old tp-link wireless network adapter and what do you know, it connected through to my phone.

Im not sure why, but it worked. So, if your willing or haven't already tried, get a cheap Network adapter and plug it into your laptop. It might work. Hope that helped.

I was also facing same problem with sony xperia.
@ present only solution i found is instead of hot spot i am using USB tethering. Enable this option from the android device and then from Ubuntu enable auto Ethernet option available.

Re: Unable to Connect to the Android 3G Mobile Hotspot Since 11.04 Release

How disappointing that there seems to have been no progress on this in 6 months. The problem has certainly not been resolved in 12.04. My Asus EeePC 1015PEM connected happily to my Motorola Defy with Win7. 12.04 finds the hotspot but just keeps cycling the WEP request and never makes the connection.

Unfortunately this removes 12.04's viability for travelling which is why I bought the Asus so I may have to go back to Windows. I just can't be doing with all the dual boot nonsense. Either it's an OS or it isn't.

Here the connection can be made, but is at best intermittent.

I am forced to use USB for Android tethering.

Andriod tethering is faultless on other devices (Win XP, iPOD Touch v1)
