thunderbird as news reader with optus australia

    Hi folks,
I have Thunderbird running beautifully for email but can't get the settings for a news account i'm trying to establish.

I rang optus (aussie telco) to try to get some info on settings, expecting server name to be, as it was in the past with most telcos for news: news.optusnet.com.au only to be told that it was mail.optusnet.com.au, which can't be right (and doesn't work anyway)

Anyone happen to know if Optus has dropped news from their service for some puritanical and/or business reason? or what? coz i sure can't work it out....

If anyone is interested, I have been able to discover that optus has cut its usenet feed without a word of explanation and dummied their staff on the topic.

This appalling lack of regard for their customers matches the breathtakingly cut-throat corporate attitude I've come to know and execrate the world over.

Good to see a fellow Australian . If you are interested in text groups only I have used individual.net for some years now and it is only $10 a year, depending on the exchange rate. Might be worth a look perhaps....
You think that's air you're breathing now?
