    Exclamation PXE Boot and Kickstart

Hello Everyone. I seem to be having an issue with my kickstart server, and hoping someone can be a guide for me.

My Server is Ubuntu 9.10x64 running in a 64bit vmware on a Dell Optiplex 760. I have the Ubuntu amd64 mirror downloaded locally in /var/spool/apt-mirror/mirror/ubuntu.mirror.iweb.ca/

I am not working with any other **buntu flavours.

tftp and dhcp are all working from what i can tell. My client can boot from the PXE, get an IP address, and takes me into the Kickstart loader.

For some reason, it is not reading my ks.cfg. I get the blue screen that says the following:
"The installer failed to download a file from the mirror. This may be a problem with the network or with the mirror. You can choose to retry the download, select a different mirror or cancel and choose another installation method.

    Downloading a file failed:"

Below I have pasted whatever relevant information I can find pertaining to my issue. If anyone can be of assistance, it would be very much appreciated. Thank You!

    Re: PXE Boot and Kickstart

    *bump*

If you are still having this problem, make sure you have the ks file being loaded in your pxelinux.cfg/default

    Try checking /var/lib/tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default

For example, in default you might have

    LABEL Web (64bit)
MENU LABEL Web (Ubuntu 8.04.4 web 64bit)
    kernel ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux
    append ks=http://10.1.1.1/pxe/ks-web64.cfg vga=normal initrd=ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz --

Yours will look different, but the important thing is the kickstart file location in the "append" line. Make sure that is correct, and make sure that the kickstart file is accessible from that location.

    Try checking /var/lib/tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default

For example, in default you might have

    LABEL Web (64bit)
MENU LABEL Web (Ubuntu 8.04.4 web 64bit)
    kernel ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux
    append ks=http://10.1.1.1/pxe/ks-web64.cfg vga=normal initrd=ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz --

Thank you VERY much for providing some help to this. I will look at this, and try that. I will post any further relevant information here.

    Kindly thanks again.

    Re: PXE Boot and Kickstart

Looking at this again, I believe it is able to call your kickstart file, however there seems to be an issue installing from your local mirror. Are you using apt-mirror?

I am currently having issues installing from apt-mirror as well, however one thing I had to do initially just to get things working a little was to make sure I was also mirroring the "debian-installer" directories. Without these, it will always fail.

    http://www.packtpub.com/article/crea...ror-apt-cacher

That page has a good example of your mirror.list file, which by default doesn't mirror the debian-installer, but the folders have to be included for it to be used for PXE imaging. Once you add debain-installer, re-run apt-mirror so it pulls down those folders as well. Once I did that, I got to another error message, which I have posted here

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9369393

    Hopefully you have more luck.

I was able to solve the issue I mentioned above. You can visit the link I posted in my last post, but basically I had to add "debian-installer" to mirror for the other two branches, hardy-updates and hardy-security.
