Elementary os desktop and lxde switching and partition questions

can I run elementary os and quickly switch between that desktop and lxde? Or is there a desktop for Debian made from elementary? Oh, and can I make a communal partition? Limeys have the systems on their own partitions and a large partition that works across everything and is recognized as its own drive? I'm a noob with Linux, but I'd really prefer to start with Debian
