I need a better window switcher

I am Ubuntu Lucid and when I have many windows open, there are lots of icons on the task bar and I have to move the mouse over each icon for the title to show.

Is there a way for the Window list to appear as a vertical menu one can chose from, something like Windows Alt-tab but displayed in a vertical list rather than a grid of icons to choose from?

A similar one for Windows is found here - http://www.ntwind.com/software/vistaswitcher.html

I no longer use Lucid Lynx, so...
right click on the bottom taskbar, choose Add New Applet, and search for Windows Switcher List (if that what it's called) and add it to the taskbar.
The windows switcher will appear like a list.

Does it have its own icon? It takes on the icon of the active windows and gets confusing.

Is there anything else that responds to Alt+Tab
