Exclamation Dell Inspiron N5110 Touchpad recognized as Elantech PS/2 Mouse

Hello , just migrated from Windows 7 to the Ubuntu 12.04, feeling much comfortable and tension less.
Only one thing which keeps me annoying is that my touchpad works just like a simple mouse which means no two-finger scrolling etc, tried different methods and guides but still no luck,

here is some of my command's output which might help solving the problem!

    Code:
    ahsan@ubuntu: tpconfig
    tpconfig
    Found Synaptics Touchpad.
    Firmware: 8.96 (multiple-byte mode).
    Code:
    ahsan@ubuntu: synclient -l
Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?
    Code:
    ahsan@ubuntu: xinput --list
    xinput --list

This is kinda annoying problem , single tap and double tap works , also i have X11-synaptics input drivers also installed, what could be possibly wrong with this?

hey there i had the same problem with ubuntu 11,10 64bit (AMD),but i upgraded to ubuntu 12.04 32bit (intel) ,i finally find options for touchpad you can enable or disable 2 fingers scrolling
concerning this dell i think that the more compatible version is 32 bit (intel)

Re: Dell Inspiron N5110 Touchpad recognized as Elantech PS/2 Mouse

I know how to make it recognize your Touchpad as Alps GlidePoint, but then software's as Synaptiks allow only 1 finger. And on settings - Mouse and Touchpad - Touchpad scroll with 2 fingers doesn't work.
I'm still searching for a way to fix this, maybe ubuntu 12.04 will be better at this point.
    The fix for now:
    1. Download and install this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22680754/psm...s_0.10_all.deb
    2. open terminal and write:
    cd /usr/src/psmouse-alps-0.10/src
    3. Now write:
    sudo gedit alps.c
    4. At the file look for the /* Dell Vostro 1400 */ line, and above it you'll see 0x73 , 0x02 , 0x50, replace the 0x02 with 0x03 and save.
    5. At the terminal, make sure your still at "/usr/src/psmouse-alps-0.10/src" and write:
    sudo dkms add -m psmouse -v alps-0.10
    6. Write:
    sudo dkms build -m psmouse -v alps-0.10
    7. Write:
    sudo dkms install -m psmouse -v alps-0.10

Now reboot, open the terminal again and write "xinput list", you'll see "Alps/PS2 Alps GlidePoint".

    ENJOY :D
