Red face Firefox crashes: GLX extension missing

My Firefox often crashes with the following error message:

    Code:
GLXtest process failed (exited with status 1): GLX extension missing

Any idea what could be causing this?

Maybe the internal hardware acceleration feature of Firefox (Preferences -> Advanced)?

Thanks 2F4U! I will try with that option disabled.

Same here. This is freaking me out. Seems to happen randomly somehow, e.g. youtube somedays work like a charm and an hour later FF crashes again and again when opening it. Same with almost any other Website, there's no regularity.
Menwhile I'm on FF 11, still the same issue.
Expected Flash to be the reason, updated to the newest beta with prior deinstallation of all previous versions, no difference.
    Anyone an idea?
pus, do you probably also use Bumblebee in combination with a nVidia Hybrid GPU solution?

Internal HW acceleration of FF is off.
