video driver memory corruption and crashes

    Hey all,

    I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ430E, running an up-to-date Ubuntu 11.10.
It is an Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 @ 1.83 GHz.
I connected a secondary monitor using VGA.
Primary (the laptop) display is 1280X800.
Secondary monitor is full HD at 1920X1080.
Everything worked fine right after the installation.
    BUT,
After about 1 day of work the screen becomes corrupted.
There are various horizontal lines, like something else was randomly writing over the video buffer (I'm just guessing here, of course).
After about 2 days of work the screen freezes. I can move the mouse and see the pointer move, but the screen is frozen, and even though the applications are still alive underneath nothing changes. I click on buttons, see and hear the hard disk LED or hear a beep, but the screen still shows the frozen image it showed when it froze. Sometimes it is black (frozen during a power-down of the screen.
How do I even start to debug this?
    Please help.

00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (secondary) (rev 0c)
    Thanks,

    Tal.

    Please?

A pointer in the right direction?

    Thanks,
