    ifconfig

Hey , Hope all are doing good .

    1. I am sure about my internet connection because its working fine on windows OS.
    2. I am sure about ifconfig command

    i did as

    ifconfig eth0 XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX broadcast XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX netmask 255.255.255.0

    so let me explain.

i am trying to configure my eth0 connection with the help of ifconfig , I know i can make it with the help of the GUI networtk manager but i wanna do that from the terminal so ifconfig is in action .

at that time if i check the ifconfig command output then it will be set to IP address that what i have set in above command and after that if i check for network .....its failed . I have tried for many times and googled too . But i am failed in all cases . after restarting my PC again all those things are setting to what is the default of IP for my network provider ..which is not i have set in above command .

so what i want is a step by step process to configure network manually .

links are also welcome but please make sure that they are working .

    Thanks in Advance .
