    Question SQL*Plus problem

    Hello,

    following this tutorial:
    http://samushka.blogspot.com/2009/04...in-ubuntu.html
I installed the "Instant Client Package - Basic" and the "Instant Client Package - SQL*Plus".

I followed the whole tutorial, except for the tnsnames.ora files. When I try to connect I get the error: "ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified". I know that I have to set the "ORACLE_SID" and other variables or something like that in order to especify a "default" server to connect, but I still don't know what to do for sure.

If any of you could help me with the following:

    • I want to have a server in my computer (local server) in order to run SQL*Plus using that server, it's more for personal use, I mean, I probably won't be remotely connecting.

I'll be waiting for answers; thank you.
