Dual Monitors Separate Video cards FREEZES

THIS IS A UBUNTU system not lubuntu

    Hello

    Continuing on from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1880127
I now have thanks to the creation of the xorg.conf file an extended desktop with what looks to be a good display until one moves the mouse a bit and then it freezes.

Only the <Alt>+<syRq>+ ("R" "E" "I" "S" "U" "B") key sequence will work. (FYI It reboots the PC).

    Recap I have
    UBUNTU 10.4.3 LTS
    PC PACKARD BELL 1328/1
    :~$ lspci | grep VGA
    00:09.0 VGA compatible controller: S3 Inc. 86c968 [Vision 968 VRAM] rev 0
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter

The S3 comes up as active VGA at boot but I have switched the card numbers in the xorg.conf file so that the login prompt appears on the Motherboard SIS graphics.

The main problem is of course that it freezes and I can not get to see Monitors (problems with RandR) or a screen shot. In windows XP it all works with both screens 1024*768. I think the S3 is running on low res 800*600 maybe even lower.

So can you please advise what to do with xorg.conf file so that the monitor come up in 1024x768. I think it is modeline but that hasn't worked for some reason.

    many thanks

On the surface, it seems like a hardware/driver problem. Sorry I can't suggest much except checking to see if any proprietary drivers exist or getting a GPU with known good support for Linux.
