Cannot edit file names in nautilus

When I want to edit a file name in nautilus, I hit F2 and start writing the new file name, then I hit ENTER and it saves the new file name.
But I can do this only once. I cannot edit any other file name after that.
If I hit F2, the file name is highlighted, but I cannot move the cursor or even type a charcater. Nothing. I need to hit the ESC key or the bottom arrow to quit the editing mode.

Does anybody have a clue on what's going on?

Sorry for the late reply, but are you able to right-click and select "rename"?
